چکیده

Real deployments of wireless multi-hop networks, by Internet Service Providers (ISP), have been slowed down by their poor performance and unreliability. The research community has already proved that efficient cross-layer routing, in particular rate-aware routing, can significantly improve performances. Nevertheless, this work has been done mainly by simulations, seldom being implemented in a real environment. We present in this paper the results we obtained by comparing the performances of the traditional routing approach based on the hop-count metric and the cross-layer routing approach based on the transmission rate metric. These measurements have been done on the MeshDVNet test-bed we deployed in our laboratory. As a routing protocol we used two versions (with and without cross-layer metric) of MeshDV, a simple routing protocol expressly designed for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). As our tests clearly show, cross-layer rate-aware metric gives important improvements, in both connectivity and throughput.

Interference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...

Decentralized Routing and Power Allocation in FDMA Wireless Networks based on H∞ Fuzzy Control Strategy

Simultaneous routing and resource allocation has been considered in wireless networks for its performance improvement. In this paper we propose a cross-layer optimization framework for worst-case queue length minimization in some type of FDMA based wireless networks, in which the the data routing and the power allocation problem are jointly optimized with Fuzzy distributed H∞ control strategy ....

Cross-Layer Routing and Mobility Management in Wireless Mesh Networks

The wireless revolution triggered by the success of IEEE 802.11 standard has pushed the research community to address the design, analysis, development, and deployment of new wireless solutions. In particular, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN), a two-tier architecture based on Wireless Mesh Routers (WMR), has captured the interest from both academia and industry, because of their ability to accommod...

A Relatively Optimal Cross-layer Routing Algorithm in Wireless Mesh Network

Routing in Wireless Network is challenging because of the unpredictable behavior of the medium and the proactive effect of interference. All of these factors lead to poor performance in multi-hop wireless mesh networks specially with the conventional routing. In order to exploit all the advantages that the wireless medium offers, new routing metrics must be explored. These metrics should come f...

Cross-Layer Aware Routing Protocol for Hybrid Wireless Mesh Networks

—Route selection in hybrid wireless mesh networks (WMNs) that contain mobile mesh clients with constrained energy is a critical research challenge. Existing routing protocols take the advantages of backbone mesh routing protocols but lack of consideration of the characteristics of clients. Most of these protocols capture interference and traffic load, but lack of considering the effect of mobi...
